Y11 Product Design
Product Design AQA 3544
This is the final year of the current course and is the time when everything comes together. Students have major coursework assignments to complete (40 hours) and preparation for examinations. Students are guided through the demands of creating supporting Folders of research and designs which will be marked along with their final projects. Final projects account for a large part of the coursework marks and require real quality items to be produced to gain the highest marks.
Awareness of environmental, social, and historical factors are covered and an appreciation of textiles, food, and ceramics are also included. The course helps students understand all the different ways in which industry manufactures and the problems that manufacturing can create.
Students are expected to combine the skills and understanding of materials they have worked with so far and to add still more. They will be developing new processing skills and working against the clock to ensure that all the work is completed by the final deadline.
Regular deadlines are used to assist both students and staff to keep on target and ensure that the projects are completed to schedule. Parents should appreciate that this is a stressful time for students and offer them as much help as they can to smooth out the pressures.
Previous projects are available for students to discuss and analyse and this will help them get the best from themselves.
Practice of previous examination papers will be regularly used to build confidence and familiarity with the way in which questions are phrased and what is expected in examination conditions. Further lessons will be used to complete the understanding of the syllabus and prepare students for the examinations.
